Aline Gonçalves is a Brazilian multi-instrumentalist and composer whose work bridges popular, experimental, and Latin American music. A flutist, clarinetist, arranger, and composer, she was nominated for the 2024 WME (Women’s Music Event) as Best Instrumentalist and received multiple awards at the Prêmio Profissionais da Música, including Best National Arranger and Best Instrumental Author (Southeast) in 2023.
Aline was a founding member of the iconic Itiberê Orquestra Família, and in 2002 participated in the acclaimed album Mundo Verde Esperança by Hermeto Pascoal & Grupo. From 2005 to 2007, she lived in Chile, immersing herself in Latin American traditions and releasing the award-winning album Verdevioleta – Creaciones sobre música de Violeta Parra (2007), exploring the legacy of the Chilean folk icon.
Since returning to Brazil in 2008, she has collaborated with notable Brazilian artists such as Jards Macalé, Teresa Cristina, Roberta Sá, Juliana Linhares, Socorro Lira, Thiago Amud, and Livia Mattos. In 2018, she joined the Brazilian band El Efecto, touring extensively across the country, and co-founded Essa Mulher, a collective supporting and promoting music composed by women.
In 2020, she launched Emmbra – Escritas Musicais de Mulheres Brasileiras, a groundbreaking songbook highlighting the works of Brazilian women composers, which won the 2021 Prêmio Profissionais da Música.
Her debut solo album Pacífico (YB Music, 2022) was praised for its poetic arrangements and rich sonic textures, leading to performances throughout Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In 2023, she recorded the national TV program Instrumental Sesc Brasil with her quintet and released Dímelo, a new project dedicated to Latin American music in trio format. In 2024, Aline premiered Emmbra Big Band—the first all-women big band in Rio de Janeiro—and released the single Atlântida, featuring Uruguayan legend Hugo Fattoruso.
Her distinctive musical voice has led to invitations to take part in various recent projects in recent years. She has composed original soundtracks for major Brazilian podcasts (Rádio Novelo Apresenta, Nem só de Pão, Conversas Imortais), acted as musical director for theater productions such as Violeta Parra em 10 Cantos and As Pequenas Coisas , and produced albums for Brazilian groups Choro do Jura, Orquestra Atípica de Lhamas, and Belorizontinos. She was also invited to act as curator and jury member for national cultural platforms, including the Toca Festival (2024), Hans Koch Awards (2024–2025), and BNDES music (2025).
